adelaidehills.org.au | beer, cider and micro brewing 30 Beer, cider & MICRO BREWING It’s not just world-class wines that are made in the Adelaide Hills – the beers, ciders and cordials are classics as well. From a refreshing glass of local beer to apple wine that will leave your tastebuds tingling; discover Adelaide Hills’ brewers, cider makers and innovators serving up the perfect drop to quench your thirst. Your first stop for the day is Johnston Oakbank for tastings from a wide range of delicious, non-alcoholic, full-flavoured cordials. A short distance away is Lobethal, home to Lobethal Bierhaus, a small all-grain micro brewery with an accompanying cellar door and restaurant, which offers a beer matching menu built around unique local produce. Only a short drive away is Kersbrook Hill where you can sample a handcrafted apple cider, making the most of Granny Smith apples from the nearby orchard. The small town of Verdun is home to Grumpy’s Brewhaus – a micro brewery that produces traditional full-flavoured European-influenced ales along with many seasonal styles. Pair your brew with a famous wood-fire oven gourmet pizza – try a ‘Grumpy Goat’ or ‘Funky Chicken’. In Hahndorf, visit the Gulf Brewery in the main street for a range of boutique beers, including a seasonal beer known for its smoky bacon Lobethal Bierhaus flavour. Then it’s over to Prancing Pony Brewery, located in Mount Barker, which uses the old traditional method of brewing using fire. The result speaks for itself, with the sumptuous and distinctive caramelised flavours. While in the Hills, don’t miss Hills Cider, using 100 per cent Adelaide Hills fruit. Winning awards Australia-wide, Hills Cider can be found at many of the favourite local watering holes, including on tap at The Haus, The German Arms Hotel, The Stirling Hotel, Aldgate Pump Hotel, Stanley Bridge Tavern and Three Brothers Arms.
